The Weekender Report

November 20, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- It is really starting to look festive around Chicago and the suburbs. This would be the weekend to start getting in the holiday spirit.

You know the holidays can't be too far away when scrooge, Tiny Tim and the rest of the cast of a Christmas Carol hits the stage at the Goodman Theatre. The 32nd annual production of the holiday classic opens Friday and runs through December 31.

Mickey Mouse and company host the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival this Saturday. Performances begin at 11 a.m., with the procession kicking off at 5:30 along the Mag Mile from Oak Street to Chicago. If you can't make it in person, it will be broadcast on ABC7 at 6 p.m.

The Museum of Science and Industry's annual holiday exhibit, "Christmas Around the World: Holidays of Light," opens Friday and runs through January 3.

Need some gift ideas for the kids? Check out the Chicago Toy and Game Fair Saturday and Sunday at Navy Pier. All the hottest and latest new toys and games will be on hand, to play or purchase, and the inventors of some classic and new games will be there, as well.

If you have a passion for power, the muscle car and Corvette nationals are at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. About 500 rare, unique and powerful cars will be on display Saturday and Sunday.

And a brand new Cirque du Soleil show is now in performance at the Chicago Theatre. Banana Shpeel is a mix of comedy, tap, hip hop, eccentric dance and slapstick -- all with that fabulous cirque pizzazz. It runs through January 3.
